Origin

The mutant known as Bul (aka Bulverine) never knew his parents. His earliest memories are of growing up in the sideshow of a third rate circus. He wasn’t treated poorly by the circus, but was considered more as property than person. He had no formal education, but taught himself to read from comic books he found. From these comics he got the dream of some day becoming a costumed crime fighter.

When he was about 14 years old, the circus hit hard times and sold him to a businessman opening a chain of Japanese steakhouses. The man felt young Bul would make a fine mascot. Unfortunately, the businessman got into debt to the Tsoo, an Asian street gang, and they took all he owned, including Bul. They saw not a mascot in the young mutant, but a powerful assassin. They started training Bul in their fighting techniques, even giving him a set of mystic claws. While he learned these quickly, he resisted the Tsoo attempts to turn him into a cool-blooded killer. His dream of being a hero kept him looking for a chance to escape.

It was the Rikti invasion that finally freed Bul from the Tsoo. In the confusion caused by the Rikti, Bul over powered his captors using the skills they had taught him. With nowhere to go, Bul made his way to Paragon City, while trying not to be found by the Tsoo. This took awhile, and by the time he got there the war was over. He found out about other cow-like heroes who had come to help rebuild the city, and while being more of a loner, joined up with them and helped form the Insane Cow Posse. He took the name Bulverine after one of his favorite comic book heroes, but most people just called him Bul, so now he just goes by that.

After the second Rikti invasion the ICP’s leader, Brahma, left Paragon City. Before leaving, Brahma appointed Bul as the new leader. Bul tried, but he lacked the skills to keep the herd united. Some members went their own way, while others joined with the ICP’s oft time allies, the Avatars of Justice. Bul decided to also seek membership in the AoJ.
