On Kheldians and Nictus and the 5th Column (spoilers)

Yesterday (10/21) I was asked what I thought was happening with the 5th Column and if I thought they were going away. My answer was simple: they're not going away, but you should expect them to change.

But I didn't want to explain it outright, as not everyone like spoilers, so I'd mention it here and flag it at such.

So the 5th column is changing? In fact its very likely to schizm. The 5th column is not at all what it appears to be and has not been for some time.

How did I come to this conclusion? Well keep in mind that with all these screenshots I take, and the fact that 90% of the villain descriptions at warcry were hand transcribed by me... well lets just say a lot floats around in my head.

So...you've seen this:

City prepares for expected threat

now followed by this:

Visitor contacts Paragon Times reporter directly

And you're wondering how they're related? And I assure you they are related. Well the answer is going to make you rethink everything you know in this game:

Lets look at some relavent quotes:

“The soldiers I arrest these days have this look in their eyes, as if they were almost grateful to me for bringing them in. I tell you this: something has them spooked.

"According to Moonfire, Kheldians are beings composed only of energy. When they came to Earth, they found they were able to merge with humans, which can benefit both parties. This is where the story takes a shadowy turn, however."

"Unfortunately, they are not the only Kheldians on Earth. There is another group, called the Nictus, who are not concerned with the needs of those they merge with."

“You must be wary of the Nictus, Juliana Nehring. They have made efforts in the past to forcibly merge with humans, taking complete control of their forms. No doubt they will attempt this again in the future.

Yeah, so still got nothing?

Then I have 5 words for you, which you may know if you're over level 30:

"The Path of the Dark"

If you have that souviner I suggest you read it carefully. If you're doing that arc, pay close attention. You're learning about what you're fighting. You're learning the truth about the 5th Column.

Oh and now the clincher... lets look a bit at Requiem's info:

"Ridolfo Uzzano has come a long way from his humble beginning as one of Mussolini's lapdogs. The primary cause of his success was his fusion with a Nictus, a being of utter darkness. The Nictus gave Ridolfo the ability to scorch his foes with an infernal fire. Though he is now over 100 years old, Requiem remains a fearsome foe in battle. Leader of the 5th Column."

Did you see it -- if you didn't you should read it again, because you missed the word Nictus.

Yes, Requiem, leader of the 5th column is a Nictus -- an evil a Kheldian.

And since we know that, and we know what we learn duing the "Path of the Dark" storyarc, is that people mistakenly refer to it as the Warwolf arc, when it should be the Nictus Arc.

Yes, because if what you learn on that arc is true, that means Warwolves are Nictus too.

It also means that later in life when you get the portal mission where Warwolves are all over the landscape, that is not a 5th column controlled dimension -- its a Nictus controlled dimension.

I hope you've enjoyed this as much as I did piecing it together.

I noticed that......and it's

I noticed that......and it's ok. I was able to catch myself on a Skylon that was moving by and made it back to my hideout just in front of the jaws of Grumpy!!

You left out one thing in you

You left out one thing in your hypothesis,

The reports out of the Amazon of strange snake-like creatures with very large eyes. The reports out of the latest issue of the Paragon Times state that one of thes creatures, named Malak, was witnessed merging with one Richardo Marshall in front of his two small children Wilfredo and Holienda Marshall.

These new beings, named Sleestacks by the local tribal people, posses superior powers and ability but are sensitive to light.

We need to be on the lookout for them.

Okay been mulling this over s

Okay been mulling this over some more and I think I've got a good angle on how this stuff is fitting in to the CoH universe...
<br><br>
A brief history on Statesman from CoH Main Site:
<br><br>

Quote:
And then came The Statesman. Born Marcus Cole, he began his transformation from a poverty born child to world hero after serving in the US Army during World War I. Instead of coming home in 1918 he headed east, bent on exploring the world now that he'd had a taste of it. Where he went and what happened to him during that lost decade remains a secret to this day. What is no secret is that when his ship pulled into Paragon City port in 1931 he was much more than the young private who had shipped out to fight for freedom in Europe.
<br><br>
Cole claimed to have unlocked the power of his own Inner Will, an obscure explanation at best. Whatever their true origin, it was undeniable that Cole possessed something that hadn't been seen since the age of the Greek Heroes: superpowers. Cole was strong beyond human limits and impervious to fists, knives and even bullets. However he'd come by these powers, Cole now found a cause to which he could apply them: saving his beloved Paragon City from itself. The would-be hero took on the name Statesman, an identity that personified all the values and ideals that Paragon City currently lacked.

<br><br>
"Cole possessed something that hadn't been seen since the age of the Greek Heroes: superpowers"
<br><br>
Pay attention to that line.
<br><br>
Now Requiem came into being in the at the turn of the 20th Century as documented in the path of the dark story arc:
<br><br>

Quote:
You received a tip to Bentley Berkeley's location, and were able to free him from the 5th Column. He told you something about his own battles against the Path of the Dark in the 1920's and directed you to find a man named Sam Bassie, the descendant of Henry and Jennie Bassie, people he used to battle the supernatural with. You contacted Paul Stemitz, who had also worked with the Bassies in an earlier incarnation. You went to get Sam Bassie's grandmother's Journal, but had to defeat the 5th Column in order to protect him and get the book. The Journal detailed the battle against the Path from almost a century ago, including the final fate of Ridolfo Uzzano, a power-hungry Italian fascist. Most chilling of all was Jennie Bassie's certainty that Requiem was none other than Uzzano, given power by the Path of the Dark.

<br><br>
Note that it was Bassie who fought in the 20s and his grandmother who wrote the journal. And who had fought Uzzano/Requiem.
<br><br>
So with this said here's my theory:
<br><br>
Before the Kheldians were factioned into Peacebringers and Nictus, there were just Kheldians. They found a way to Earth and inhabited men and women and made them gods. Greek gods, Egyptian, Roman, etc. Then one day something happens and they vanish.
<br><br>
That something is a schizm (can you tell I like that word?). There are as we know benevelent (Peacebringers) and malevolent (Nictus) gods. The Kheldians split along these lines and there was a war (think like Norse gods and Ragnarok -- every mythos has a war like this that ends the rule of the gods). And the outcome was that the portal between their world and hours was closed for a time.
<br><br>
However in a last ditch effort the Nictus left behind the Shadow Seed (aka Seed of the Dark).
<br><br>
Centuries later this seed is found and used by Uzzano to become Requiem. The Nictus have an agent on Earth.
<br><br>
Now remember that line from above about the Greek Gods? Well what if we take it to be a literal hint...
<br><br>
And so for some number of years the Peacebringers try to break the barrier again and can not.
<br><br>
That is until comes along Marcus Cole. With the help of Marcus' strength of will the Peacebringers are able to send along their envoy who becomes Statesman when merged with Cole.
<br><br>
And for years this balance was met. That is until in recent years when Requiem began using the Shadow Seed to make Warwolves. Warwolves as I said earlier are Nictus.
<br><br>
So seeking to bring balance again, the Peacebringers being sending envoys to Earth.

There is also a General Hammond in the game. some one is definitly a SG-1 fan.

Fuzun's origin might be...

more tied into the game then even I thought. Remember where I had him tranposted to another dimension populated beings composed of pure energy? Might they have been...Kheldians ? Jawdropping!

Man....

My playing time has been limited as of late, as we all know, but I guess it means that I have been getting in some "quality" play time as I have seen the billboards for awhile now and I suspected we might be facing an invasion of the body snatchers.

Couple that with all the reports of increased 5th activity and seeing it for myself.....just reading Star's post really kinda cements those ideas home.

Now, I just need to find some time to get to level 30 real quick. Any one out there want to help a gimpy academic blaster get 2 and a half levels this weekend?

It appears that giving spoilers is ok. Stop reading if you don't want a spoiler.
<p>
I'm doing a 5th Column mission. I'm at the end of it and a secret benefactor is helping me. I've just destroyed a Time Machine and prevented the Nazis from taking advanced technology into the past and winning the war.
<p>
Who helped me?
<p>
Requiem
<p>
Why? Why would Requiem help me fight against the Nazis?
<p>
Because Hero... if the war was won I might have just been a minor princeling in some provence and not the great ruler I am today.

He went on to say that DARKNESS will come and something about his history being protected.
